Bukavu : Nadine Ombeni and her husband were charged of child abduction, child trafficking, child torture,
Justice has been served in the tragic case of Nadine Ombeni, a mother of three from Bagira, who has been sentenced to death by the Bukavu Court of First Instance. The trial took place over two days, on Friday, August 3rd, and Saturday, August 4th, at the communal square of Bagira.
Nadine Ombeni and her husband were charged with criminal association, child abduction, child trafficking, child torture, and exposing children to harmful substances. However, the court found Nadine Ombeni guilty of murder, specifically the murder of a five-year-old girl whose body, missing some organs, was found in a ravine in Bagira on Tuesday, August 1st. On the other hand, her husband, Christian Mufariji, was acquitted of the criminal association charge due to lack of evidence.
The civil party lawyers are satisfied with this verdict, but they promise to appeal in order to bring the acquitted person back to the dock.
As for the defendants’ lawyers, they will also appeal the judgment in hopes of securing an acquittal for Nadine Ombeni.
The case revolves around Nadine Ombeni’s alleged kidnapping of two children from the same family. One child was found dead, while the other, drugged but unharmed, was discovered in her possession. It is believed that Nadine Ombeni used a birthday celebration as a ruse to lure the children away from their unsuspecting parents.
