COP30 in Belem : Jambo Radio, a community-based multimedia platform, to be awarded

DRC Celebrated Among Gender Just Climate Solutions Awards Laureatest at the 30th Conference of the Parties in Belém, Brazil, on 17 November 2025, the 10th edition of the Gender Just Climate Solutions Awards will take place. This global ceremony honors innovative women-led initiatives that transform climate action through inclusive and community-driven approaches.

This year, the Democratic Republic of Congo stands out with an exemplary project led by a local and Indigenous team, demonstrating how community participation and women’s leadership can drive tangible solutions to climate and humanitarian crises.

The award-winning project, Jambo Radio, is a community-based multimedia platform led by women and Indigenous leaders. It uses local-language broadcasts, podcasts, listener clubs, and community debates to debunk climate misinformation, strengthen local action capacity, and promote resilience and adaptation to climate crises.

Broadcasting in Local Languages. Jambo Radio offers programs accessible to all, using local and Indigenous languages to overcome language barriers and foster deeper understanding. This approach empowers communities to take meaningful action on socio-environmental and climate-related challenges.

Local communities, particularly those in rural areas and Indigenous peoples who are often marginalized in the DRC, lack access to accurate and verified information on environmental and climate issues. This leaves them vulnerable to myths and misinformation, hindering their capacity to respond effectively.

Jambo Radio reflects a global trend where local voices, especially those of women, are driving climate transformation by emphasizing solutions grounded in culture and local realities.

The ceremony on 17 November will celebrate these change-makers and share their inspiring experiences, highlighting that gender equality and local participation are critical levers for effective and just climate action.
